Eclipsys Adds Next-Generation Suite of Mobility Applications to Sunrise Enterprise Portfolio
--Unique Design Approach and Constituent-Specific Devices Support Company's Drive to Make Healthcare Technology More Free and Open--

ATLANTA, Mar 01, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- In its drive to make healthcare technology more free and open, Eclipsys Corporation (NASDAQ: ECLP) today announced the addition of an integrated suite of mobility applications designed for the Apple iPhone(R) and Apple iPod touch(R). The mobility applications are built on Helios by Eclipsys(TM), the company's recently announced industry-defining open platform. Featuring a differentiating user interface built specific for mobility, constituent-specific devices and native integration with Eclipsys' leading Sunrise Enterprise(TM) suite of healthcare information technology solutions, Eclipsys' mobility applications bring a next-generation approach to smart phone technology in healthcare.

This week Eclipsys will preview its suite of mobility applications at the 2010 Annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference & Exhibition to be held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, March 1-4, 2010 (Booth #5833).

"We've broken away from the industry practice of migrating desktop paradigms to smart phones," said John Gomez, Eclipsys' executive vice president and chief technology strategy officer. "Our ground up design approach immerses our developers in extensive clinical observation and iteratively tests solutions within simulated hospital floors to enable them to create 'situational awareness' to decrease the need for users to physically stop and comprehend information they are viewing and entering. By combining the sophisticated workflows of our software applications with a user interface that can be tailored specifically to the mobility user's needs, we're bringing enriched mobile solutions to the market unlike anything seen in healthcare."

Key Features and Devices for the Individual Needs of Physicians, Nurses and Patients

Eclipsys will be the first healthcare information technology company to embed Nuance Communication's new Dragon Medical Mobile capabilities within a smart phone to enable physicians and nurses to have speech-driven navigation and recognition with a mobile device. Specific to physicians, Eclipsys' Apple iPhone application design focuses on enabling rapid access to patient information and order entry capabilities, going one step beyond typical mobile devices which merely provide physicians views of patient data. For nurses, an overlooked constituent in the healthcare mobility market, highly graphical task lists and patient management features in the Apple iPod touch or iPhone will support improved workflows and enhanced ability to respond to patient needs. In addition, a patient mobility application integrates with Microsoft HealthVault and Eclipsys' Sunrise Enterprise solutions to enable patients to make and reschedule appointments, reorder medications and interact with disease management and family health tools.

"Eclipsys has taken its thorough understanding of the problems with current mobile solutions to deliver to the market a disruptive mobile technology that will revolutionize nursing throughput and physician efficiency," said Denis Baker, chief information officer of Sarasota Memorial Hospital. "I firmly expect Eclipsys' smart phone suite will reflect a clear vision of leveraging new technology to enhance collaboration and patient time to treatment by augmenting the care team's understanding of the patient while they are on the move."

Eclipsys plans to explore the advanced capabilities of other smart phone platforms, including Google Android and Microsoft Mobile as the company continues to address the evolving technology needs of healthcare providers.
